I had a few extra minutes this morning, so I took three Shamrock variety apples and made applesauce. Three medium apples makes about two cups of applesauce, which for today is a little to flavor some hot cereal and a cup for the multi-grain applesauce muffins I plan to make this week. But, the important points to remember are: the cooking time is about 20 minutes, so if I’m not peeling the apples first, I can have the whole operation done, including cleanup, in a little over half an hour. Also, three medium apples takes about 1/4c. of water or cider to keep it from sticking.
I love my food mill. It’s such a simple, easy-to-operate device. Even with my wrist problems, the only part of using it that sometimes gives me trouble is assembling and disassembling, because the spring is very strong.
